According to American officials, the US military attacked two Iranian launchers present on Larak Island on Sunday. America says that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) soldiers were preparing to launch rockets to lay sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the US Central Command, the movement of international ships through the sea tunnels in Hormuz was prohibited. In view of this danger, the American Army took this action.
Iran said- many soldiers and civilians were killed
After the American attack, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed the attack. The Iranian side claims that many soldiers and civilians have been killed and injured in the attack. However, Iran has not yet revealed the exact number of casualties.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency claimed that Larak Island was attacked by drone and according to preliminary information, two people were killed and two people were injured. America has not officially confirmed the method of attack.
Iran threatened to retaliate
After the attack, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned America to respond. IRGC said that this attack will be responded to and the attacker will be punished. Due to this, there is a possibility of military tension increasing once again in the area.
After this, news of missile attack by Iran on American military bases in Jordan has also come to light. The Jordanian army said it intercepted eight missiles.
Why is Larak Island and the Strait of Hormuz important?
Larak Island is located near the Strait of Hormuz. This strait is one of the most important energy routes in the world. Before the war, about one-fifth of the world’s maritime oil trade passed through this route. Therefore, any military tension here can have an impact on international shipping and crude oil prices.
America says that it had recently removed sea mines from the international shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump had also warned Iran that if it tried to lay tunnels again, action would be taken against it.
America-Iran face to face again after a month
The US attack on Larak Island is the first known US military action against Iran in nearly a month. After this attack and Iran’s possible retaliatory action, the fear of re-intensification of the US-Iran conflict has increased.
