Major action has been taken against encroachment and construction without permission in the area of historical Jama Masjid in the capital Delhi. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) started a campaign to remove encroachments in public places and parks in the area from Monday morning. This action is being taken following the instructions of Delhi High Court.
Municipal Corporation teams reached the area around Jama Masjid early in the morning and started removing constructions built without permission and other encroachments in public places. According to officials, action to remove encroachments is going on in at least three parks of the area. The Delhi High Court had directed the Delhi Municipal Corporation to survey illegal constructions and encroachments in the area around Jama Masjid and take appropriate action against them. After this the Municipal Corporation has started this action.
Municipal Corporation teams have started removing structures built by encroachment on public places. Officials have made it clear that this action is being taken under the instructions of the court. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to ensure that there is no law and order problem during the operation. Senior police officials have said that tight security arrangements have been made.
The area around Jama Masjid, one of the historical buildings of Delhi, is a very busy part of Old Delhi. This operation is being conducted against encroachment in public places, parks and other places.
