Kanpur. After the death of a woman in Maharajpur police station area, her family members and villagers, under provocation, blocked the National Highway (GT Road) and carried out a deadly attack on the police force and created havoc. A case has been registered in Sangeet sections against 23 named and 30-40 unknown accused and seven named ones have been arrested by the police.
Police said that on 30.08.2026, at around 17:15 time, information was received that after the post-mortem of deceased Mala (daughter of Rajesh Nishad) of Maharajpur police station area, family members and villagers were taking the body for cremation. On the way, under the instigation of anti-social elements, a crowd of 50-60 people misbehaved and vandalized the ambulance driver and kept the body on the National Highway (Kanpur – Prayagraj GT Road, in front of Hawa Mahal Dhaba) and disrupted the traffic on both sides.
As soon as the information was received, Inspector-in-charge Chakeri and Inspector-in-charge Maharajpur along with police force reached the spot. Police officers tried to pacify the family members and villagers for about 2 hours, but the crowd remained furious. During the conversation, the miscreants in the angry crowd launched a deadly attack on the police force with sticks, iron rods and bricks and stones with the intention of killing them. In which inspector in-charge Chakeri and outpost in-charge Ahirwaan and inspector in-charge Maharajpur suffered serious injuries.
Senior officials reached the spot and completely controlled the situation and the body was sent for cremation. Today on 31.08.2026, on the basis of on the spot videography of the said case and local enquiry, the accused were identified and the accused wanted in the case were being searched. When the police team reached towards the Airport Cut, it was reported that some men and women who had yesterday blocked the highway and attacked the police, were planning to run away secretly via Alulapur road. Taking immediate action on the above information, the police team laid siege near the airport turn and using necessary force, 5 male and 2 female accused were taken into custody.
