Mamata Banerjee's niece's body found hanging in her house, police suspect suicide in preliminary investigation

Kolkata. Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's niece Brishti Mukherjee died at her home in Birbhum district on Tuesday. Based on preliminary investigation, police have expressed suspicion of suicide. Let us tell you that Brishti Mukherjee was 28 years old.

The body was sent for post mortem

According to police, his body was recovered in the afternoon from a room on the second floor of his house in Kusumba village of Rampurhat area. After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. A senior police officer said that investigation into the matter has been started. The circumstances of death will become clear only after the post-mortem report and other procedural investigations. Police are also collecting information from family members.

Was undergoing treatment for depression

According to family members, Brishti was going through the divorce process. He was also undergoing treatment for depression for the last few years. The police are now trying to find out what were the immediate circumstances behind his death. Brishti's father Nihar Mukherjee is the son of Mamata Banerjee's maternal uncle and is a local level TMC leader. Police investigation is ongoing in the matter.
