GSK Velu, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Neuberg Diagnostics, stated on September 2 that artificial intelligence has become an integral part of diagnostic processes in both pathology and radiology. Speaking about the future of healthcare, he asserted that AI and robotics will be foundational.
Velu explained that AI is now extensively embedded in diagnostic imaging such as mammography, MRI, and CT scans. “For example, in mammography, MRI, or CT scans, where a doctor previously read 20 images, AI now enables them to process up to three times that volume by fast-tracking diagnostics,” he said. He added that this technological integration will deepen across pathology and radiology in the coming years.
Velu also outlined Neuberg Diagnostics’ advanced capabilities, noting they operate one of the largest genomics processing centers in the region. These include centers of excellence located in Ahmedabad, Chennai, and a new facility launching in Delhi. Additionally, the company has metabolomics centers in Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Bangalore, with plans to expand to Delhi soon. They are also establishing a national center of excellence for renal pathology in Delhi, which will feature electron microscopy for renal biopsies.
Dr Harsh Mahajan, Padma Shri awardee and Founder and Chairman of Mahajan Imaging & Labs, highlighted the increasing importance of AI in diagnostics. He emphasized the joint strengths of Mahajan Imaging and Neuberg Diagnostics through their venture, which combines Neuberg’s expertise in high-end pathology, genomics, metabolomics, molecular pathology, and proteomics with Mahajan Imaging & Labs’ capabilities in imaging, radiology, and nuclear medicine.
“The reason for our joint venture is that Neuberg Diagnostics brings in a lot of strength in pathology, especially high-end pathology, genomics, metabolomics, molecular pathology, and proteomics. On our side at Mahajan Imaging and Labs, we have been very strong in imaging, radiology, and nuclear medicine,” Mahajan said.
