ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027: India will host the inaugural session of the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy for the first time. This tournament will be played from 14 to 28 February 2027. All the matches of this big tournament of six teams will be played at Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara. This will give another big platform to women’s cricket in India.
This tournament was earlier to be held in Sri Lanka, but now it has been shifted to India. Sri Lanka Cricket still has to work on the reforms suggested by the ICC in July. The names of Bangladesh, India and South Africa were considered for hosting. After this, ICC selected India on the basis of set standards. The ICC Board approved this decision on 1 September.
Six teams will face each other
Teams from Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will participate in the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy. The special thing is that the tournament will be played in T20 International format. In the league session, each team will play one match each against the remaining five teams. After this, the two teams that top the points table will face each other in the final to be held on February 28.
India and Australia have a big responsibility
ICC Chairman Jay Shah said that the Women’s Champions Trophy will start a new chapter for women’s cricket. He said that this tournament will give the world’s top teams an opportunity to play together and will inspire the players to improve their ranking. India is the current Women’s ODI World Cup champion. It won the title last year by defeating South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. At the same time, Australia is the current Women’s T20 World Cup champion. Australia won its seventh T20 World Cup title by defeating England at Lord’s this year.
