Seems like Bollywood is back in the comedy genre, and moviegoers are in for a treat as yet another comedy film is set to release in India.
On Wednesday, the makers unveiled the trailer of Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial, Vibe 2. The film also stars Kunal in the lead alongside Preity Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Vanshika Dhir, and others. It also features a special cameo by Kunal’s mother-in-law and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore.
Apart from Kunal Kemmu’s comic timing, it was Preity Zinta’s action avatar that emerged as one of the highlights of the trailer.
A section of fans was particularly impressed to see Preity packing a few punches and taking on a fierce and powerful role, with many expressing excitement to see her return to the big screen in a different space.
Netizens flooded social media with their reactions, with many praising the film’s storyline, performances, and mix of comedy and action. Kemmu’s comic timing emerged as one of the major highlights, with several viewers calling his humour hilarious and praising his effortless screen presence.
Several fans also drew comparisons to Madgaon Expresswith comments like “Madgaon Express Universe” and “Maza aa gya… Madgaon Express vibes are back.” Another netizen went as far as predicting that the film could earn “200 cr for sure.”
The excitement around the film was evident in comments such as, “We are sooo ready for this one yaaayyyy let’s gooo,” while another fan summed up Kunal’s comedy appeal by writing, “Kunal Khemu + comedy + Made for each other.”
Preity Zinta’s action avatar, meanwhile, came as a surprise to many. Reacting to her performance in the trailer, a fan wrote, “Whaaaaaattt! PZ doing action too! Y’all this is a VIBE, can’t wait for 18 Sept.”
Writer, director, and producer of ‘Vibe’ Kunal said, “With ‘VIBE’, I wanted to make a no-holds-barred entertainer that audiences can watch and enjoy in cinemas with family or friends or even on their own. It’s got everything I love about movies—rib-tickling comedy, high-octane action, cutesy romance, buzzing music, and so much more. For me, the comedy comes from watching ordinary people find themselves in the middle of chaos that is completely beyond their control. Playing one of those characters while also writing, directing, and producing the film meant constantly shifting between different versions of the same madness. Preity, Sparsh, Vanshika, Yashpal, Dinesh, and the rest of the cast each brought something so distinct to the table that the dynamics only became more fun as we went along. It’s a film packed with chases, danger, confusion, friendship, and a lot of bad decisions, which is probably a pretty accurate description of why I enjoyed making it so much.”
Spilling beans about her character, Preity added, “What I really enjoyed about my character was that she has an energy that is completely her own. She loves her country and will go to any lengths to protect it. When there is a job to be done, she is going to find a way, by hook or by crook, whatever it takes. I loved playing someone with that kind of determination, and the role also allowed me to explore a side of myself that audiences haven’t seen before.”
Praising Kunal as a director, she shared, “Kunal knows what he wants from his actors, and working on this mad film was such an adventure—you never really knew what the next day was going to bring, which somehow felt very appropriate for a film called VIBE.”
Kunal’s Vibe is all set for a box office clash with his sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor Kapoor’s upcoming film Daayra, co-starring Prithviraj and directed by Meghna Gulzar, is set to hit theatres on September 18.
