Officers are also preparing extra patrols along the city's main coastline and nightlife area ahead of seafarers' shore leave. Pattaya police chief Anek Sarathongyu said it was difficult to take action because prostitutes could solicit clients in public places without authorities knowing. “We are trying our best, but it is difficult,” Srathongyu told Reuters. The city has also arranged for about 40 buses in different groups to transport the sailors to and from Pattaya for as long as the carrier remains in Thailand.
