New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) corruption case. The court directed his release on a bail bond of ₹2 lakh along with two sureties of the same amount.
The relief was granted by Special Judge Digvinay Singh at the Rouse Avenue Court. The detailed reasoning behind the order is yet to be released.
ACB Had Opposed Jain's Bail Plea
The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) had opposed Jain's bail application, alleging that he played a key role in the alleged manipulation of Delhi Jal Board sewage treatment plant (STP) tenders.
The agency claimed that during Jain's tenure as Delhi's water minister, he allegedly influenced the tender process to benefit a private company.
In its written submission, the ACB accused Jain of working with senior DJB officials, including former CEO Udit Prakash Rai, to alter technical recommendations, project requirements and cost estimates.
Allegations Linked to DJB Tender Process
According to the ACB, irregularities began after a meeting held in August 2021 involving Jain, DJB officials and representatives of Euroteck Environmental Pvt. Ltd.
The agency alleged that the tender conditions were later modified in a way that favored a specific technology and company.
However, Jain has denied the allegations against him, and the court's bail order provides temporary relief as the legal proceedings continue.
Relief for AAP Leader
Satyendar Jain, who previously served as Delhi's health and water minister, has faced multiple legal challenges in recent years. His bail in the DJB case comes as a significant development for the AAP leader and the party.
