Hong Kong blown away by Mandhana storm

Dubai: Indian women’s cricket team registered its second consecutive win in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 by defeating Hong Kong by a huge margin of 137 runs. With this victory, Team India has secured the ticket for the semi-finals. It has become the first team to do so. In the Group A match played at the Dubai International Stadium, India won one-sidedly on the basis of Smriti Mandhana’s record-breaking century and the brilliant performance of the bowlers. This is Team India’s second biggest win in women’s T20 International cricket. India’s biggest win came against Malaysia by 142 runs in 2018.

Batting first, India made a strong score of 193/5 in 20 overs. In response, Hong Kong’s batting completely disintegrated in front of the Indian bowlers and the entire team was reduced to 56 runs in just 12 overs. Deepti Sharma bowled brilliantly for India and took three wickets. At the same time, Shri Charani, Nandini Sharma and Pratika Rawal played an important role in ending Hong Kong’s innings quickly by taking two wickets each.

The biggest star of this match was Smriti Mandhana. The Indian opener played an explosive inning of 124 runs in 64 balls. His innings included 14 fours and seven sixes. Smriti along with Shafali Verma gave India a fast start by adding 74 runs for the first wicket. Shefali scored 28 runs in 17 balls.

This innings of Smriti was full of records. By scoring her 18th international century, she left behind Australian legend Meg Lanning and became the batsman with the most centuries in women’s international cricket. This was Smriti’s second century in T20I International career.

Not only this, Smriti also left behind Mithali Raj’s record of 10868 international runs during her innings. With this, she became the highest run-scorer batsman in women’s international cricket. However, apart from Smriti, the Indian middle order batsmen struggled to increase the run rate. Pratika Rawal scored 10 runs on 12 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was out after scoring 10 runs in 9 balls, while Richa Ghosh scored 11 runs in 13 balls. Team India will face Pakistan on September 5 after registering 2 consecutive wins in Asia Cup 2026. This match will be played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
