Kathmandu. Two people were rescued nine days after flooding in a tunnel of the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project in Nepal. One of the rescued persons said that he kept chanting 'Hare Krishna' mantra while he was trapped. He hoped that he would be saved. Coincidentally, he was rescued on the day of Krishna Janmashtami, which is a festival of Hindus and is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna.
Let us tell you that one of the two employees rescued after 9 days was 30-year-old Sanjay Sah, who is a resident of Saptari district of Madhesh province. Sanjay Sah is an employee of Nepal Electricity Authority. Sanjay Sah told the security personnel that he had been chanting 'Hare Krishna' mantra for the last 9 days while he was trapped inside the tunnel. Talking about the incident soon after being evacuated safely, he said, “I was chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra for the last nine days.”
Sanjay Sah, who worked as a foreman in the project, said that when other people ran away after the disaster, he stayed there because he felt responsible for everyone's safety. He told that when the accident happened, he was working in the control room. Sah said, “I was working in the control room. My responsibility was to save everyone's life.”
He told that after the accident, he asked everyone to run away, but by the time others left the place, it was too late for them to run away. When asked how many people might still be trapped inside, he said he had heard or talked to three or four people around him.
Sanjay Sah also said that more people may be trapped inside the tunnel, including people around the powerhouse. “It is possible that not everyone could escape. The tunnel is very long,” he said. He said that the strong flow of flood water might have pushed people deeper into the tunnel. The security command led by Nepal Army is carrying out search and rescue operations using special equipment.
According to security sources, his condition is stable and he has no health problems. He was taken to a local hospital in Trishuli. 45 year old Kabir Maharjan was also saved. He was airlifted to Nepal Army Hospital in Chhauni, Kathmandu as he required further treatment due to health issues.
