Team India will play T20I match against Japan for the first time

Team India: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a big announcement. According to BCCI, before starting their campaign in the Asian Games, the Indian men’s cricket team will play a historic T20 match against Japan. India’s first match in the Asian Games is to be played on 28th September and just 6 days before that i.e. on 22nd September, this match will be played with Japan. This will be the first time in the history of men’s cricket when the teams of India and Japan will clash with each other.

BCCI has informed on its official Twitter handle that this historic T20 match is being organized to celebrate the 75th anniversary of relations between India and Japan. According to the photo shared by the board, this match will be played on Tuesday, September 22 at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. This match will start at 9:30 am Indian time.India and Japan are completing 75 years of diplomatic relations. To celebrate this special occasion, the men’s cricket teams of both the countries will play a historic T20 International match in Tochigi city of Japan on 22 September 2026. The match is part of a new initiative named “Sport 75”, which was decided at a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Its main objective is to further strengthen the relations and friendship between the two countries through sports. Also, this initiative has been created keeping in mind India’s dream of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the year 2036, so that both the countries can help each other in the field of sports.

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has said that it is a matter of great pleasure and pride for the Indian cricket team to go to Japan and play this T20 match. He said that this match is a great opportunity to popularize cricket in Japan and the rest of East Asia. The friendship between India and Japan goes back years and is extremely strong, and celebrating this 75 years of relationship through sports will be a truly special experience. Before the Asian Games, the Indian team will play a 3-match T20 series against Afghanistan. Team India was recently announced for this series.
