Tragic accident in Kerala Thrissur, car collides with parked truck, 8 students from Tamil Nadu killed

Eight people died in a horrific road accident on National Highway 66 late on Friday night. A car collided with a parked lorry. Seven people died on the spot, while one injured died during treatment at the hospital. According to the police, the accident happened around 11:40 pm on Friday night.

The accident took place at Panampikkunnu near Kaipamangalam. The car registered in Madras (Madurai) was going from Guruvayoor to Kodungallur. Due to road construction, the car collided with a lorry parked in the opposite direction. All the dead were in the car. They are believed to be students from Tamil Nadu. An identity card of a student of PSNA Engineering College, Dindigul has been recovered from the spot.

Local people, fire and rescue services and police immediately started rescue operations. The car was completely destroyed. Firefighters had to cut the car out to save the two injured.

The youngsters were pulled out of the car in a rescue operation carried out by local people, fire and rescue personnel and the police. His body was taken to the Thrissur Medical College mortuary here, police said. The vehicle involved in the accident was registered in Tamil Nadu.
