French champion Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is still waiting for its first win in the new Ligue 1 season. Despite taking the lead through a Marquinhos goal at the Parc des Princes, PSG beat Monaco 2–1. PSG could not win its first three Ligue 1 matches.
Marquinhos gives PSG the lead
PSG went into lead in the 31st minute of the match. Team captain Marquinhos sent the ball into the goal with a header from close distance.
PSG had opportunities to increase their lead in the first half. But the team could not score the second goal. Notably, in the first half Monaco was unable to register even a single shot on goal.
Monaco comeback in the second half
Flavio Nazinho equalized for Monaco 13 minutes after halftime. Naziinho received Jordan Teze's cross, reached the back post and sent the ball into the goal. This ended PSG's lead.
After 14 minutes, Stanis Idumbo gave Monaco the lead again. PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov hit the near post and sent the ball into the goal with a strong shot by Idumbo.
After that PSG tried to equalize again. But Monaco could not eliminate the lead. Monaco led 2-1 at the end of the final time and secured three points.
PSG's first such defeat since 2021
This is the first time PSG has lost a match after losing to Nantes in March 2021, having a lead at halftime.
Monaco on top
With this victory, Monaco reached the top position in the points table. That team maintained a 100 percent win record in the initial matches.
On the other hand, PSG are still waiting to get their first win in their Ligue 1 campaign.
