The entire area of the Strait of Hormuz is currently the target of rockets, drones and missiles. America and Washington have started targeting each other’s oil tankers. Amidst the deepening crisis in West Asia (Middle East), this is the first time that missiles from Washington and Tehran are directly hitting oil tankers. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), this action was taken hours after Iran fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships.
Iran fired ballistic missiles targeting two US Navy ships. American warships were successful in avoiding these missiles. There is no report of any American military personnel being injured in this attack. US forces attack three Iranian crude oil tankers. This action is being seen as another major escalation in the increasing military confrontation between Washington and Tehran. The movement of commercial ships is already affected in the area. The conflict has also increased instability in the international energy market. Attacks on oil tankers could further increase concerns about the security of maritime transportation and energy supplies.
The United States has attacked and sank three Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard fired ballistic missiles at an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer, CBS News and Al Jazeera reported. No American warship was damaged in this attack nor was anyone injured. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they attacked several ships, including those reportedly linked to the US, in response to US attacks on Iranian tankers on Saturday morning.
The Guards said in a statement that their navy targeted three oil tankers in unauthorized passage through the Strait of Hormuz and three US-linked ships carrying child casualties in other areas. He warned other ships not to try to pass through unapproved routes. America did not immediately confirm this. Earlier on Saturday, US Central Command said three Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf have been permanently rendered useless. The action came after Iranian guards fired ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer.
Iran has warned that if the US continues attacks on shipping, attacks on American ships will become even more serious. On this, Danny Citrinovich, an expert on Iran affairs at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, said on Twitter that Iran’s targeting of the American aircraft carrier with a ballistic missile shows that Tehran is now becoming more ready to take the risks that it previously wanted to avoid. Hassan Ghashghavi, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission and spokesman, described the attacks on American warships as part of an “existential battle with America.” He argues that Washington’s naval blockade should never have happened.
