Dehradun. In Uttarakhand, action is being taken against madrassas that are unrecognized and ignore educational standards. According to the latest information, the Minority Welfare Department and administration have so far closed 20 such madrassas in Uttarakhand. In the latest action, madrasas were closed in Azad Colony and Majra of Dehradun. At the same time, two unrecognized madrasas were closed in Haldwani of Nainital district. Both these madrassas are in Shani Bazaar Road of Gaujajali North and Indira Nagar of Banbhulpura. Recognition documents have been sought from the management of both the madrassas. A madrasa has also been closed in Udham Singh Nagar.

When the Uttarakhand government took strict action and closed 17 madrassas that were unrecognized and did not follow the standards, even those running such madrassas got scared. As a result, the management of three madrassas themselves closed them. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has given clear instructions that no educational institution in the state should run without recognition and fixed rules. Dhami government says that children will be given modern education in madrassas also. There will be no compromise on the future and quality of education of children.
Pushkar Singh Dhami government of Uttarakhand has abolished the Madrasa Board of the state. In its place, Minority Education Authority (USAME) has been created. It has been made mandatory to teach board curriculum in all the madrassas of Uttarakhand. From July 1 this year, the old rules of Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board Act and recognition have been abolished. It has been made mandatory to teach mathematics, science and social sciences to students in madrassas. Besides, the rules regarding taking donations from Madrassas have also been tightened. Madrassas in Uttarakhand are getting recognition only after verification of adherence to the standards.
