Big action by Darrang police, 18 members of the gang that cheated people around police stations arrested

Taking a major action against organized crime, the police in Darrang district of Assam have arrested 18 members of a gang. According to the police, this gang was active around police stations and outposts and used to target common people visiting there. The accused would allegedly stop people before they could reach police officers and demand money from them.

The network was spread in four areas

During the investigation, the police came to know that the gang had maintained its network around different police station areas. Two of the arrested accused were active around Mangaldai police station. At the same time, three accused were found active near Dhula police station, one around Kharupetiya police post and 12 accused were found active in Dalgaon police station area.

According to the police, the accused had kept their hideouts around the police station premises. They kept an eye on people who approached the police with any problem or complaint. Even before they could contact the police officials, the gang members used to stop these people and allegedly asked for money from them.

Common people were targeted

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the gang worked in a planned manner. The accused used to remain present near police stations and identify those people who needed police help in any case. After this they used to try to stop them from reaching the police.

This action of the police is being considered an important step against organized crime. After the arrest of 18 accused, now the police is busy gathering information about the entire network of the gang and other people associated with it. It is also being ascertained how many people the gang made its victims and how this activity was being carried out for a long time. After the action of Darrang Police, monitoring of such suspicious activities around police stations and posts is expected to be increased.
