Facing schedule conflict with the Indian Premier League (IPL) and lack of advertisements, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started preparations to make a major change in the window of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Due to the Champions Trophy in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2026, the PSL had to be moved from its traditional January window, causing the tournament to clash directly with the IPL. This overlap was reported to have an impact on the availability of top players and broadcasting revenues.
According to media reports, recently a high-level meeting was held in London between the PCB and all the eight franchise owners. This suggestion has come from Wali Technology, the company that holds the live telecast and streaming rights of the league. The main issue of the meeting was the lack of advertisements, as the current window falls immediately after Ramadan, when advertising companies have already spent the bulk of their budgets. This is the reason why the franchises want the tournament to be shifted back to the month of January so that conflict with the IPL can be avoided.
However, interestingly, despite the clash with IPL, there has been no significant negative impact on the popularity of PSL. PSL 2025 broke all previous records in Pakistan with 3.4 billion live streaming views, and 2026 also recorded strong figures. Despite this, PCB is seriously considering this major change due to commercial interests and abundance of advertisements.
