Grand Mufti AP Abubakar Musaliar, general secretary of the Kanthapuram faction of Kerala's leading Sunni organization Samasta Kerala Jam-Iyatul Ulama, was earlier embroiled in controversy over Muslim women. Now his latest statement on Sharia has come. AP Abubakar Musaliar said at the International Milad Conference in Kozhikode, Kerala on Saturday that no matter how much he is opposed, he will continue to preach Sharia and follow it. Now there are chances of dispute on this also.
Abubakar Musliyar said in the conference that Sharia belongs to Allah. The same Sharia which has been taught by the Messenger of Allah. He said that the Prophet taught that those who believe in Sharia will keep talking about it till the Doomsday. The Grand Mufti said that no matter how much anyone opposes, the Sharia of Allah and the path shown by the Prophet will always be invoked here. Abubakar also expressed his desire to organize Sharia conferences in every district of Kerala. He told the people that he hopes you all will come together and support this initiative. Earlier, Abubakar Musaliar had also created controversy by giving a statement in an Islamic conference on behalf of the Kanthapuram faction. He had said that bringing women on public platforms would cause great destruction.
Abubakar had said that to prevent such devastation, the practice of purdah has been made mandatory for women in Islam. The Kanthapuram faction had issued a statement saying that the Holy Quran directs that women should stay in homes. He should not appear in public. Islamic scholars said that knowledgeable people have taught such things in the last 100 years. Therefore you should understand this. It was also said that because of this the women of this country have maintained respect and dignity. It was also said in the program that bringing women to the programs is not only not appropriate for the devotees but it is also not approved. When questions were raised on this statement, Abubakar Musaliar had said that he was not asking for pressure on women. He himself had talked about providing education to many girls.
