The auto sector is undergoing major transformation due to energy efficiency, clean fuels, electric mobility, modern technology and advanced manufacturing methods. Increasing charging infrastructure is also increasing adoption of electric vehicles, creating new business opportunities for companies.
Gadkari's number for India 1 Confidence in making the auto industry
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said India has a large market, engineering expertise and manufacturing capacity. He expressed his belief that currently India is the 3rd largest auto industry in the world, and the country has the potential to become number 1 in the future.

Gadkari also emphasized on options like electric vehicles, biofuels and green hydrogen in the future. He expressed the need to rapidly increase the use of clean technology especially in heavy vehicles like trucks and buses.
Also focus on vehicle safety and older vehicles
Gadkari said that more than 30 models from 11 companies have received certification under India NCAP to improve vehicle safety in India. He also explained that the auto companies should take a more active role in scrapping, retrofitting and reducing pollution of old vehicles.
