Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's son Namal Rajapaksa was arrested in Sri Lanka. Allegedly, in 2013, he took a bribe of 8 lakh dollars during the purchase of Airbus. However, Mahinda Rajapaksa claims that his son is innocent. Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama ordered that Namal be detained for the next two weeks pending further investigations. He was brought to court by the country's Bribery and Corruption Allegations Commission (CIABOC).
According to court documents, the money was sent to Namal Rajapakse, a Singapore-based Sri Lankan businessman. During the hearing, Namal's lawyer Nishant Dayanand applied for bail but it was rejected. It should be noted that the scandal has been brewing for a long time. Last May, Mahinda Rajapaksa was also questioned in connection with the bribery case. Former Sri Lankan Airlines chief Kapila Chandrasena claimed he was involved in bribery. Later his body was recovered. Since this mysterious death, there has been a sensation about the incident.
