An official said on Thursday that in view of the security, logistical arrangements and movement of convoys of vehicles related to the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit, the offices of the Central and Delhi governments will remain closed on September 11 to ensure minimum inconvenience to the people on the roads.
Before this international event, Delhi Traffic Police is rehearsing for the traffic movement during the summit. As part of the traffic management drill for the events from September 11 to 13, the traffic police has planned traffic diversion at 22 places and controlling traffic movement on more than 35 roads.
On Wednesday, traffic police imposed restrictions and diversions on traffic between 10 am and 3 pm for the motorcade rehearsal ahead of the BRICS Business Forum and the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit.
With September 12 and 13 being a Saturday and Sunday, traffic management is expected to be relatively less challenging for the traffic managers handling the summit arrangements.
Meanwhile, in a bid to promote technology-based traffic management, Delhi Traffic Police is using drones to capture real-time aerial view of traffic movement on important routes of the national capital. Additional Commissioner of Police Vijayanta Goyal Arya gave this information.
Arya said that drone monitoring is being done at major intersections, main roads and jam-prone corridors to assess the real-time traffic situation, identify jammed areas and take necessary action in time.
Monitoring from above helps the traffic teams to keep an eye on the jam situation and take immediate steps to smooth the movement of vehicles.
Arya said, “Special attention is also being given to inter-state border points and places where long queues of vehicles are forming. The information received from drones helps in assessing the length and spread of queues, identifying congestion points and better regulation at the ground level and strategies for de-escalation of traffic.”
