Importance of Ganesh Chaturthi
The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with devotion and gaiety throughout the country. On this special day, devotees worship Lord Ganesha and offer him his favorite dishes. Modak, which is considered to be the most favorite offering of Lord Ganesha, is specially prepared on this occasion.
Make fresh modak at home
Although there are different types of modaks available in the market, home made fresh modaks have a unique taste and value. If you want to make something special for Lord Ganesha this Ganesh Chaturthi, traditional Ukdiche Modak is a great option. Made with a sweet filling of coconut and jaggery and a soft layer of rice flour, these modaks are extremely delicious.
Filling Method
Prepare coconut-jaggery filling
Start the process of making modak with the filling. For this, heat some ghee in a pan and add grated coconut to it and fry it lightly.
After this add jaggery and cook on low flame. When the jaggery melts completely and mixes with the coconut, add cardamom powder and chopped nuts to it.
Take care not to cook the mixture for too long, otherwise the filling may become dry. Keep the prepared mixture aside to cool.

Now add water, some ghee and salt in a pan and boil it. When the water starts boiling, slowly add the rice flour.
Keep stirring the mixture continuously so that lumps do not form. Then turn off the gas and keep the mixture covered for a few minutes.
When the dough cools down slightly and becomes kneadable, knead it well and prepare a soft dough.

Make small balls of the prepared dough. Place a ball on your palm and shape it into a bowl with your fingers. Place coconut and jaggery filling in the middle.
Now join the edges by gently bringing them upwards and give the shape of modak. If you have a mold for making modak, then you can make beautiful shapes with its help.

After preparing all the modaks, place them in a steamer and steam for about 10 to 15 minutes. When the outer layer of modaks starts appearing shiny and soft, then understand that they are ready.
Apply a little ghee on the prepared modaks and if you wish, decorate them with saffron or chopped nuts to make them more attractive.
