Apple Foldable iPhone Could Cost Rs 2.8 Lakh in India

Apple’s First Foldable iPhone May Be Extremely Expensive

Apple’s long-rumoured entry into the foldable smartphone market could come with a price tag unlike any previous iPhone. A new leak suggests the company’s first foldable iPhone could cost around $2,300 in the USwhile the reported Indian price could reach an eye-watering ₹2.8 lakh.

Apple has not officially confirmed the device, its specifications or its pricing. However, reports have increasingly pointed towards a launch around the company’s September 9 event.

7.8-Inch Display With Book-Style Design

The foldable iPhone is expected to use a book-style design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

Reports suggest it could feature a 7.8-inch internal display when unfolded and a 5.5-inch external display when closed. The larger screen is expected to offer a more tablet-like experience for multitasking, browsing, gaming and entertainment.

The inner display could use a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving the unfolded phone a wider workspace than a conventional smartphone.

Touch ID Could Replace Face ID

One of the most interesting reported changes is Apple’s potential return to Touch ID.

The foldable could use a fingerprint sensor built into its side button instead of Face ID. The reason may be Apple’s aggressive thickness targets, as the additional hardware required for Face ID could be difficult to accommodate in an extremely thin foldable chassis.

The device is reportedly around 4.5mm thick when unfolded and approximately 9.5mm when folded.

A20 Chip and 12GB RAM

The foldable iPhone is also rumoured to use Apple’s next-generation A20 chipreportedly based on a 2nm manufacturing process, paired with 12GB of RAM.

It could also feature Apple’s next-generation C2 modem and run iOS 27 with software optimisations designed specifically for the foldable form factor.

Storage options could reportedly extend up to 1TB.

Two 48MP Cameras

Despite its expected ultra-premium positioning, the foldable may use a dual-camera setup rather than a triple-camera system.

The leaked configuration includes a 48MP main camera and 48MP ultra-wide camerawith no dedicated telephoto lens.

That omission could be another compromise made to save internal space in the thin foldable design.

Why Could It Cost ₹2.8 Lakh?

The reported price would put Apple’s foldable firmly in the luxury smartphone category.

Earlier analyst estimates have generally placed the US price between $2,000 and $2,500with $2,300 repeatedly cited as a possible starting point.

The Indian price, however, should be treated with particular caution. Taxes, import duties, exchange rates and Apple’s regional pricing strategy can substantially change the final retail price.

Apple’s Biggest Foldable Gamble

Apple would be entering the foldable market several years after competitors such as Samsung. Rather than competing primarily on price, the company appears to be targeting the ultra-premium segment with thinness, premium materials, custom silicon and tight integration between hardware and software.

The biggest question is whether Apple’s ecosystem and software experience will convince consumers to pay potentially ₹2.8 lakh for a first-generation foldable.

Summary: Apple’s first foldable iPhone could cost around $2,300 in the US and potentially ₹2.8 lakh in Indiaaccording to a new leak. Rumoured features include a 7.8-inch inner display, 5.5-inch outer screen, A20 chip, 12GB RAM, Touch ID and dual 48MP cameras. Apple has not officially confirmed the device or its pricing, so these details remain speculative.
