How Inter made history with Esposito’s new 2032 contract extension

Inter confirmed over the weekend that Italy international Francesco Pio Esposito has signed a new, long-term contract extension, running until the summer of 2032, and in doing so, the 21-year-old has become the first player in Italy to put pen to paper on a six-year contract.

What is so special about Esposito’s new contract with Inter?

The Nerazzurri confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Esposito had extended his stay with the club until June 30, 2032.

The academy graduate, who has been with the club since 2014, had already been under contract until the summer of 2030, but his latest contract comes with a significant increase in wages after establishing himself as a firm first-team option during an impressive 2025-26 breakthrough season.

According to the latest reports, Esposito will take home a net salary of €2.7m per year on his new contract, up from the €1.85m-per-year he had been earning on his previous deal. His new wages will cost the club just shy of €5m per year with taxes included.

Esposito’s new contract has also made history in Italy, as he is the first player in the nation to sign a six-year contract.

Until last year, 2025, legislation in Italy had prevented athletes from signing employment contracts that were longer than five years in duration. These rules were amended on June 30, 2025, and the maximum duration of sporting contracts in Italy has been increased from five years to eight.

Inter are the first club to take advantage of this change in legislation and Esposito has become the first player in Italy to sign a contract that runs for six years or longer.
