Mirzapur: The Movie has emerged as one of the most talked-about releases in recent times, underlining the immense popularity of the franchise and its characters. Bringing together familiar faces and new additions, the big-budget film marks a major experiment in taking an OTT property to the big screen.
After a strong opening, the film maintained its momentum throughout the first weekend. Now, its first Monday numbers have offered another reason for the makers to celebrate.
For a film without a traditional superstar at its centre, Mirzapur: The Movie has delivered impressive numbers at the box office. Ahead of its release, trade experts had largely predicted an opening of ₹18–20 crore. However, the film exceeded expectations, collecting ₹25.75 crore on day one.
The opening day collection also surpassed the numbers recorded by recent hits such as Saiyaara, which opened at ₹22 crore, and Awarapan 2, which collected ₹21.50 crore.
The film continued its strong run on Saturday, earning ₹32 crore, before witnessing a major jump on Sunday with ₹36 crore. As expected, the first Monday saw a dip due to the weekday factor. However, the film remained steady and collected ₹15.50 crore by 10 pm.
The Monday haul is particularly significant, as it has taken Mirzapur: The Movie past the ₹100 crore net mark in India. The film’s total domestic net collection now stands at ₹109.25 crore.
Mirzapur: The Movie was released in Hindi and a Telugu-dubbed version, with the majority of its earnings coming from the original Hindi release.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, the film is directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani serving as co-producers.
The film stars Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu in their respective roles. It also introduces Jitendra Kumar as Bablu Pandit, taking over the role from Vikrant Massey.
Ravi Kishan appears as a new addition to the franchise, while Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur and Shweta Tripathi reprise their roles from the series.
