Washington, September 3, 2026: While there is a worldwide discussion about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the construction of data centers related to it, America's Commerce Minister Howard Latnick has given a big statement. He has warned in clear words that, if any community or region opposes the construction of AI data center, then it will forever lose huge economic opportunities like huge investment, employment opportunities and huge tax income.
Speaking at a press conference following the G20 Innovation Ministerial in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Latnick strongly supported the rapid deployment of AI infrastructure. The comments came after a reporter pointed out that Orange County had imposed a one-year ban on building large data centers. In response to this question, Latnik said, “The real problem is misinformation and misunderstanding. If you stop data centers, the great economic opportunities of the future will keep slipping away from you and going elsewhere.”
The Commerce Minister had categorically dismissed the rumors and misconceptions being spread about data centres. He also rejected claims that data centers would make electricity expensive or put excessive strain on local resources. According to Latnik, all these things are being spread to tarnish the image of data centers so that America can be slowed down in the global race. He clarified that companies building data centers make independent arrangements for their energy needs and also contribute significantly to the local economy.

Local level communication and future warning
Latnik suggested that companies setting up AI data centers should communicate better with local citizens and clarify their doubts. Companies should clarify that this will not increase the rate of electricity bill at the local level. Forecasting the future, he added, “The areas that are opposing these projects today will be saddened to see neighboring areas prospering economically in the future. One, two or five years from now, when we look back, the protesters will realize what a huge economic opportunity they have missed.” He stressed that this infrastructure is essential for the development of the country as AI models have the potential to deliver global knowledge to every economy and community.
