Washington. The United States Commerce Department on Monday said India has joined an alliance of the US and 24 other countries in a global initiative to develop next-generation 6G telecommunications networks. Apart from this, US Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick met India’s Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasad during the G20 Innovation Ministerial to discuss the future of 6G.
“We are pleased to announce that India has joined the United States and 24 other countries in an effort to ensure that next-generation networks meet our shared security needs,” the US Department of Commerce said on Twitter. Strengthen our competitiveness and promote innovation in 6G.
The Commerce Department said in a statement that the agreement was finalized following a bilateral meeting between Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick and Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasad during the G20 Innovation Ministerial. “Latnick met with India’s Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasad during the G20 Innovation Ministerial to discuss the future of 6G,” the department wrote.

It is noteworthy that India’s Union Minister of State Jitin Prasad led the Indian delegation at the G20 Innovation Ministers’ meeting held on September 1 and 2 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina (USA). The meeting was hosted by the US Department of Commerce and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
Referring to the meeting with Latnik, Prasad wrote in a post on X that the main focus of the conversation was to advance important sectors that lay the foundation of the field of modern technology. “Semiconductors, AI, data centers – these are the cornerstones of the emerging digital economy,” Prasad said on X.
