news desk – Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP government over the collapse of PG building in Delhi's Satya Niketan. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi posted on social media platform X and raised questions on the working style of the government regarding the accident.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that it has become a fixed pattern of BJP government. According to him, no attention is paid to prevention before accidents and rhetoric starts after the incident. He said that after this the responsibility is put on some small officials, while the big responsible people are saved from accountability.
'Satya Niketan is not an isolated tragedy'
Rahul Gandhi said that the collapse of a building full of students in Satya Niketan is not an isolated incident. He also mentioned other incidents that took place in Delhi in the last few months.
He said six people died in a similar tragedy in Saidulajab, while 22 people lost their lives in a fire in Hauz Rani. According to Rahul, every time people's lives and their dreams get buried under the debris, but no action is visible.
Rahul Gandhi also accused those who raised questions on the government of allegedly giving derogatory names. He said that attempts are made to embarrass and defame those demanding accountability.
'Helplessness is the intention'
Taking a jibe at the Delhi government, Rahul Gandhi said that there is a 'triple engine' government here, yet what is the government helpless about? He said that helplessness is a matter of intention, because where there is no intention, there is no accountability.
Congress alleged that people are losing their lives repeatedly in buildings, fires and other accidents in Delhi, but adequate steps are not being taken by the government for a permanent solution.
After the death of seven people in the Satya Niketan accident, Congress has demanded action against all those responsible for the incident. The party also demanded provision of affordable and safe accommodation for students.
Congress has also demanded to bring Rent Control Act for hostels and PG. Apart from this, a demand was made to give compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
Kanhaiya Kumar also surrounded the government
While holding a press conference with NSUI President Vinod Jakhar, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar also targeted the government and administration. He said that even 24 hours after the accident, answers to many questions are not clear and the debris has not been completely cleared.
Kanhaiya Kumar claimed that there were about 45 beds in the PG and a large number of students could have been present there at the time of the accident. He also accused the administration of negligence in relief and rescue work.
Congress leaders alleged that in the past too, students have lost their lives in incidents like fire at coaching centres, libraries and other places in Delhi. The party raised the question that when will the responsibility and accountability for such incidents be decided?
