Age fraud hits India U-19 squad: BCCI forced to remove Bengal’s Rohit Yadav

Bengal cricketer Rohit Yadav has been removed from the India Under-19 squad for the Australia series for committing age fraud.

The Junior Cricket Committee has named Saurashtra Cricket Association’s Aryan Savsani as Rohit’s replacement in India U19’s One-Day squad, while Haryana Cricket Association’s Tanmay Baloda has been named as his replacement in the Multi-Day squad.

What BCCI said

“Rohit, who was named in India’s U19 squads for the upcoming fixtures against Australia U19 at Rajkot and Ahmedabad, has been withdrawn from the squad due to age discrepancies,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday (September 8).

Rohit, who is originally from Uttar Pradesh, had represented India during the Under-19 team’s tour of Sri Lanka in July, taking six wickets and helping the side win the final Youth Test.

Rohit banned for 2 years

According to a report in Sports starsRohit, a legspinner, changed his date of birth multiple times since 2014, and has now been banned for two years by the BCCI for age fraud.

However, the BCCI has not yet announced the ban officially.

When Rohit registered with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in 2014, his date of birth was recorded as July 7, 2007, with his address listed in Uttar Pradesh. In a 2017 Aadhaar update, his year of birth was changed to 2006, while a further update in 2020 continued to show 2006, the report said.

In 2021, however, his year of birth was changed again — this time to 2009. Subsequent Aadhaar updates in 2022, 2023 and 2024 continued to show 2009. His address, meanwhile, also changed from Uttar Pradesh to Howrah, with later records listing Liluah, it added.
