Apart from this, the decision given by mutual consent in Lok Adalat is final. No appeal can be filed against this decision in any other court. This not only saves precious time of the vehicle owner, but also provides direct relief from unnecessary expenses incurred due to repeated visits to lawyers or courts. As soon as the challan is paid in the Lok Adalat, the pending status of your vehicle is immediately removed from the official portal of the Traffic and Transport Department and the vehicle record is cleared.
Which challans can be settled?
The main objective of Lok Adalat is to resolve compoundable cases. If your challan has been issued for reasons like over speeding, parking at wrong place, jumping red light, driving without helmet or without seat belt, then you can directly take advantage of this discount. Apart from this, challans issued for talking on phone while driving, PUC of vehicle or expiry of insurance can also be settled here by paying a very small amount. The challans which are very old and have been sent to the court by the traffic police are also easily settled during this period. Keep in mind that challans for very serious and dangerous offenses like drunk and drive are not covered under this system.
Process and required documents
To avail this facility, the driver will have to go to the concerned district court premises of his area on 12th September. Before going to court, you must keep some important documents with you. These include printed receipt of pending challan, original RC of the vehicle, valid driving license, insurance paper of the vehicle and updated PUC certificate. The officers will check your documents and challan at the traffic help desk located in the court premises. After this the challan will be presented before the Lok Adalat judge, where a small amount of fine will be decided by mutual discussion and consent. As soon as the stipulated amount is deposited, you will be given an on-the-spot final receipt.
Major disadvantages of keeping challan pending
If you keep your vehicle challan pressed for a long time, you may have to face many administrative problems in the future. As long as the challan of your vehicle appears pending on the transport portal, you will not be able to renew the insurance of your vehicle. Apart from this, there will be hindrance in getting NOC while selling the vehicle and RC will not be able to be transferred in the name of any other person. If you ignore the challan for too long, the traffic police can also send court summons to your address. In such a situation, the most sensible step is to go to the Lok Adalat on 12th September and get your pending challans cleared.
