Police have made the fifth arrest in the case of building accident in Satya Niketan, Delhi. After the building owner and the contractor who was doing construction work in the basement, now the police has arrested Sudhanshu, who was running the PG by taking the building on lease. According to the police, Sudhanshu had taken the building on lease from the owner Hariram Bansal and was running a PG here. After the accident, the police intensified the investigation of the case and also started investigating the aspects related to PG operation.
Action continues against illegal and unsafe buildings in Delhi. In this sequence, demolition and sealing action will be taken today in three areas of East Delhi. These include Laxmi Nagar, New Ashok Nagar and Pandav Nagar. During the action, along with the demolition of the identified buildings, properties violating the rules will be sealed.
The building was on lease from August 2025
The police have arrested the person who operated the PG in the building that collapsed on Sunday in Satya Niketan area of South Delhi. Police gave this information on Wednesday. During interrogation, the police is trying to find out on what terms the building, which was in very poor condition, was taken on lease for PG operation. According to Delhi Police sources, Mahesh had leased the building to two business partners Shubham Tyagi and Sudhanshu from August 2025. Both of them had taken the building on lease and operated PG in the name of 'Hostel Daze'. After the accident, the police also started investigating the role of people associated with PG operation. In this sequence, Sudhanshu has been arrested, while his business partner Shubham Tyagi is said to be absconding at present. Police is interrogating Sudhanshu.
What did Mahesh tell in police custody?
The two-day police custody of Mahesh, one of the accused in the Satya Niketan accident, is ending today. The police have taken him from South Campus police station to present him in the court. Along with Mahesh, a building contractor and a mason are also being presented in the court. The investigation is being taken forward on the basis of information revealed during interrogation during police custody.
Police is interrogating Sudhanshu
A building suddenly collapsed in Satya Niketan area of South Delhi on Sunday afternoon. After the accident, 12 people were pulled out from the debris, out of which seven died, while five others were injured. The building was being used as a paying guest (PG) accommodation for students. A senior police officer said on Wednesday that PG operator Sudhanshu has been arrested. At present the police is interrogating him and information is being collected on various aspects related to the accident.
Who has been caught so far?
In this case, the police has already arrested 75-year-old building owner Urmila Gupta, her husband Hariram Gupta, 81, retired from the Air Force, and her son 52-year-old Mahesh Gupta. Apart from this, Sonaj, a contractor who was carrying out repair work in the basement of the building, was arrested from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh.
Demolition will be done with hammer, not bulldozer
After the accident in Delhi's Satya Niketan, the process of removing the weak and dilapidated building has started. All the stuff inside the building has been taken out. In view of security, 5-6 nearby buildings have also been evacuated. Bulldozers or heavy machines are not being used to demolish the dilapidated building. The building is being demolished slowly with the help of hammer and other necessary tools, so that there is no damage to the surrounding buildings. At present, the MCD team is present at the spot and the work of removing the weak building located next to the building that collapsed in the accident has been started. Heavy security forces have been deployed at the spot.
PG of entire Delhi will be mapped
After the Satya Niketan accident, MCD has taken a big step to check the safety of all the PGs operating in Delhi. MCD Commissioner has ordered mapping of every PG in the capital. Through this, it will be ascertained whether the properties being used as PG are following the safety standards and building construction rules or not. MCD has also issued strict instructions regarding illegal construction of fifth floor. If a fifth floor is being constructed in an under-construction building without permission, action will be taken to demolish it immediately.
