Making a big announcement in the luxury electric car market, BMW India has launched the i5 Long Wheelbase in India. The new electric sedan has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 79.60 lakh and will be manufactured locally at BMW Group's plant in Chennai. Interestingly, this is BMW's first electric sedan to be produced locally in India. The company also launched the First Edition at the same price, which had only 99 units available and sold out before the launch.
BMW i5 eDrive35L M Sport measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height. A longer wheelbase of 3,105 mm gives rear seat passengers more legroom. Considering Indian roads, rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance are provided. On the exterior, illuminated kidney grille, adaptive LED headlamps and 20-inch M alloy wheels add to the appeal.

The car gets a rear-mounted electric motor along with an 81.6 kWh battery. This motor produces 268 hp of power and 410 Nm of torque. So the i5 accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.7 seconds, while the top speed is 195 kmph. According to the company, a single charge gives a MIDC certified range of up to 669 km. It takes 33 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent with the help of 160 kW DC fast charging.
The cabin gets a BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. It also gets four-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, panoramic glass roof, Bowers & Wilkins audio and wireless Apple CarPlay-Android Auto. There is a special emphasis on comfortable seating for the rear passengers as well. Veganza vegan upholstery, ventilated comfort seats and Sky Lounge panoramic roof give the cabin a premium feel. Features like Digital Key Plus and WiFi Hotspot make day-to-day use more convenient.
