New Delhi: After the death of 7 people in the Satya Niketan accident, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified action against illegal construction and unsafe buildings. In the last two days, demolition action was taken on 34 properties in 12 zones of the capital, while 17 buildings have been sealed. Now MCD is also keeping an eye on the safety of thousands of people who are living in PG.

Action on 17 properties on Tuesday

MCD used bulldozers against 17 properties in different areas on Tuesday. During this period, 5 properties violating the rules were also sealed. The officials made construction rules and other irregularities the basis for action.

Campaign continued on Wednesday also

The campaign intensified further on Wednesday. MCD issued 22 show cause notices and also issued 4 demolition orders. It is clear from this that the corporation is not only taking action on the spot, but is also simultaneously taking forward the legal process.

Action from Jama Masjid to Dwarka

Action against illegal construction was taken in many areas. The roof plate and partition wall were removed from a building near Jama Masjid. Action was also taken in Bazaar Sitaram, Vikas Nagar and Dwarka Sector-17. Parts of illegal construction were also demolished in Rana Pratap Bagh and Model Town.

1,243 PG buildings will be surveyed

After the accident, MCD has identified about 1,243 PG buildings. About 24 thousand people are living in them. The corporation will prepare a database after checking the safety of these buildings. Special inspection will be done of tall RCC buildings and such buildings whose load is on brick walls.

Investigation will be completed by September 10

After the survey, the buildings will be divided into four categories – safe, in minor repair, in major repair and dangerous. Officials have been instructed to complete the survey by September 10. This means that now the focus of MCD is not only on demolishing illegal constructions, but also on ensuring the safety of the people.
