Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Uttar Pradesh in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has written two separate letters to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding reservation discrepancies and exploitation of candidates in Uttar Pradesh's much talked about '68,500 Assistant Teacher Recruitment' and '69,000 Assistant Teacher Recruitment'. MP Sanjay Singh, through letters, has strongly demanded from the state government to immediately implement the recommendations of the State Backward Classes Commission and complete the appointment process by adopting a positive attitude in favor of the candidates during the upcoming hearing in the Supreme Court.

As per the recommendation of Backward Classes Commission, OBC candidates should get 5 percent relaxation.
Quoting the first letter (letter number: OTML/2026/22514) sent to the Chief Minister, MP Sanjay Singh said that 68,500 OBC and disabled candidates of Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination-2018 have been wandering for their legitimate rights for a long time. He mentioned in the letter that the Uttar Pradesh State Backward Classes Commission had taken a unanimous decision in the meeting held on June 16, 2026, while maintaining its earlier recommendation (05.01.2022). After this, on July 9, 2026, a recommendation was sent to the Principal Secretary (Basic Education) that OBC candidates should be considered passed if they get 60 marks (i.e. 40 percent) out of 150 marks and accordingly the examination result should be revised and appointment should be given.
Sanjay Singh said that according to the candidates, about 23,000 posts are vacant in the recruitment, out of which about 9,000 posts of OBC category alone are vacant. Despite this, the Basic Education Department is depriving the candidates of this benefit by making the excuse of lapse of 7 years, which is completely unconstitutional.

MP Sanjay Singh accused the Yogi Government of adopting double standards and said that the Basic Education Department itself has admitted that 5% relaxation has been provided to OBC candidates in the Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination-2019 and Head Teacher Recruitment-2021. In such a situation, depriving only 68,500 candidates of Recruitment Examination-2018 of this right is a direct violation of the 'right to equality' granted under Articles 14 and 16 of the Indian Constitution. Deserving and eligible candidates cannot be punished for the negligence of the department.
Government should file positive affidavit in Supreme Court on 16th September
In the second letter (letter number: OTML/2026/22515) written to the Chief Minister, MP Sanjay Singh prominently raised the issue of OBC and SC category candidates suffering due to reservation discrepancy in the recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers. Sanjay Singh said that the list of 6,800 reserved category candidates released by the government on January 5, 2022 is still hanging in the balance. An important hearing in this matter is to be held in the Honorable Supreme Court on 16 September 2026 (Diary No. 38554/2024).
Sanjay Singh demanded from the Chief Minister that the state government should present a clear and positive legal stand through its advocates representing the case in the Supreme Court. Supporting the suggestion of the candidates in the letter, he said that if it is not legally possible to appoint 6,800 candidates immediately, then adjustment of OBC and SC candidates should be done by downgrading the merit on 4,946 vacant posts shown in the affidavit filed by the Basic Education Department in the Supreme Court. Also, the appointment of these candidates should be considered effective from June 1, 2020 so that their interests can be completely protected at the level of service and seniority.

MP Sanjay Singh said that the youth of Uttar Pradesh have been facing lathicharge on the streets for years and the BJP government is also flouting the orders of constitutional institutions. Despite the clear orders of the State Backward Classes Commission, the Basic Education Department is sitting idle. Aam Aadmi Party will fight the battle for these victimized teacher candidates from the streets to the Parliament. He appealed to the Chief Minister to immediately issue strict guidelines to the Basic Education Department so that the eligible youth who have been waiting for a long time can get appointment and justice without delay.
