Beijing, 10 September 2026: A massive fire broke out in a foreign-flagged cargo ship under maintenance at the Guangdong Beihai Shipyard in East China's Shandong province. According to reports, at least 20 people have died in this incident and there has been huge loss of life and property.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang have given instructions to immediately start search and rescue operations for the missing people, treat the injured and give strict punishment to those responsible for this incident.
A massive fire suddenly broke out in a foreign cargo ship waiting for maintenance at the port of 'Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.' located in Guangdong, Shandong province of East China.
According to China's government news organization 'Xinhua', there has been huge loss of life and property in this accident. However, no official confirmation has been made yet regarding the exact number of casualties and the cause of the fire. Whether the fire has been completely controlled or not is still not clear.
The shipyard where the accident occurred is a major subsidiary of 'China State Shipbuilding Corporation'.
Xi Jinping and Li Qiang gave instructions
Chinese President Xi Jinping had warned all sectors and relevant departments that serious lessons should be learned from this incident and a thorough investigation should be conducted to eliminate all types of fire risks.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Li Qiang also stressed the need for immediate search and rescue operations for the trapped people. He had given strict instructions to the officials to ensure that the injured received proper medical treatment and to strictly prevent any kind of “secondary disaster”.
