Patna. The government has set a big target towards connecting the homes of poor families in Bihar with solar energy. Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Mandal said that the target is to install solar plants on the rooftops of about 2.5 lakh BPL families of the state by October.
Emphasis on solarization of agricultural feeders also
The government is preparing to promote solar energy not only in the domestic power system but also in the agricultural sector. Special attention is being given to solarizing 2,569 agricultural feeders of the state. This is expected to help in further strengthening the power system for agriculture.
Electricity infrastructure is being strengthened
The Energy Minister gave information about the changes in the power sector of Bihar in the 19th Environment and Energy Conference held in Delhi. He said that the power infrastructure in the state is continuously being strengthened with the expansion of grids, substations and transmission lines.
Emphasis on self-reliance amid increasing demand
The maximum demand for electricity in Bihar has reached about 9,475 MW. In view of the increasing need, the government is increasing investment in generation, transmission and distribution systems. Along with ensuring 24-hour power supply in rural and urban areas, emphasis is also being laid on energy security and self-reliance.
The government believes that the expansion of solar energy will not only help in meeting the electricity requirement, but can also play an important role in making the state's energy system more strong and sustainable in the future.
