Patna, 11 September 2026: The extent of flood in Bihar is continuously increasing and the number of people affected by it has crossed 47 lakh. A total of 47 lakh people in 88 blocks and 561 panchayats of 15 districts of the state have been affected by the flood.
Meanwhile, the challenge of accelerating relief and rescue operations in the affected areas as well as ensuring availability of grains, animal fodder, medicines and other essential materials is also increasing. The situation is becoming difficult due to the rivers Ganga, Gandak, Kosi and Son.
The number of community kitchens for flood-affected people has been increased to 1194. These kitchens are providing food to approximately 52 lakh people twice a day.
The government has instructed district magistrates to ensure that none of the affected families faces food shortage. The Disaster Management Department has also directed to increase the number of community kitchens.
Emphasis on providing fodder for animals
A large number of livestock have also been affected due to the floods. As a result, arrangements are being made to provide green and dry fodder as well as essential medicines to the animals in the affected areas.
The Dairy, Animal and Fisheries Resources Department has issued instructions to ensure continuous supply of animal feed in flood affected areas.
Keeping in mind the risk of infection and disease in animals, veterinary teams have been instructed to be proactive and conduct surveillance.
