New Delhi: Bharat Mandapam on Friday witnessed an important picture of the relations between India and Russia. Before the 18th BRICS summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin came face to face. The two leaders greeted each other warmly and welcomed each other with a hug. After this, a round of bilateral talks started between the two countries.

Issues related to energy cooperation, defence, trade, investment and industrial partnership between the two countries were discussed in the meeting. Along with further strengthening the economic relations between India and Russia, there were also discussions on increasing cooperation in different fields.
During the meeting, President Putin invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Russia. The Prime Minister accepted this invitation. This visit will be for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit. However, the date of the conference has not been decided yet. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the date will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels keeping in mind the convenience of both the countries.
Both leaders also reached Innoprom India exhibition
On the sidelines of the bilateral meeting, Modi and Putin also took stock of the Innoprom India exhibition organized for the first time in India. The two leaders interacted with the participants of the exhibition and witnessed the activities related to India-Russia industrial cooperation there.

Both countries recognized that such events can open new avenues of direct contact and business cooperation between companies. The exhibition is being considered an important step towards giving new impetus to the industrial and business partnership between India and Russia.
Modi presented Russian copy of Thirukkural to Putin
During the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a translated version of Tamil's famous policy treatise Tirukkural to President Putin in Russian. While giving the book, PM Modi said, “This book is related to human values, it will take our relations forward. It has been translated into Russian language for you.”
Thirukkural is counted among the most important moral texts of Tamil literature. Its author is considered to be Saint Thiruvalluvar and ideas related to life, morality, conduct and human values are found in the book. Its specialty is that it is not considered limited to any one religion, caste or sect, but is considered a book giving a broad moral message for human life.
This meeting of Modi and Putin is being considered important from the point of view of India-Russia relations. Especially the invitation for Russia's upcoming visit and the discussion on furthering trade and industrial cooperation between the two countries have made the meeting important.
