Lanterns fans were quick to catch Aaron Pierre’s English accent sneaking out during last-week’s episode of the show. Since then, montages and memes have been circulating the interwebs highlighting the scene.
Now, HBO themselves have responded to the slip-up, and it seems that they too want to be part of the joke. Taking to Instagram, HBO Max’s UK handle posted a montage of Pierre, captioning it, “You can take Aaron Pierre out of Croydon, but you can’t take the Croydon out of Aaron Pierre.”
What has happened so far in HBO’s Lanterns show?
Lanterns has so far strayed away from bombastic, operatic action, while staying grounded in its detective story boundaries. However, this hasn’t stopped the wider DCU from making cameos in the story in one form or another. Hal Jordan has treated with his former mentor, Sinestro, and found out what needs to be done to sniff out the Manhunters.
Jordan and Pierre’s Stewart have investigated William Macon’s property, coming across his advanced alien tech, the supplier of which is still not known. Stewart continued to hook up with Macon’s wife, only for her to be blasted using a satellite weapon. Further, the Guardians are now pushing Pierre to take the Green Lantern ring from Hal Jordan by force, something that the former doesn’t seem willing to do.
With the show at its halfway point, there are plenty of secrets that are likley going to come to light before all is said and done. The biggest mystery comes in the form of the death of Hal Jordan, who was shown deceased in 2026, 10-years after the events of the show (which takes place in 2016).
Apart from Pierre, the show stars Kyle Chandler as Green Lantern Hal Jordan, along with Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen, among others. Nathan Fillion has been confirmed to return to the show to reprise his role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner from his appearance in 2025’s Superman.
