Prime Video on Friday unveiled the trailer of its upcoming original film Don’t Be Shya young adult romantic comedy revolving around friendship, first love, heartbreak and the uncertainties of growing up.
Written and directed by Sreeti Mukerji, the film is produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt under the banner of Eternal Sunshine Productions. Grishma Shah and Vikesh Bhutani have co-produced the project.
The film features four newcomers — Aarushi Bajaj, Piyush Khati, Bianca Arora and Ansh Duggal — in the lead roles, alongside Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu, Neha Dhupia and Anju Alva Naik in pivotal roles.
The trailer introduces Shyamili ‘Shy’ Das, played by Aarushi Bajaj, a fiercely independent young woman whose carefully planned life takes an unexpected turn. As she attempts to put things back on track, she finds herself caught between her feelings for Mayank (Piyush Khati), a rich and popular student, and her estranged childhood friend Dhruv (Ansh Duggal).
The arrival of Tara (Bianca Arora), a mysterious and vibrant new presence in Shy’s college life, further complicates matters. What begins as Shy’s attempt to regain control of her life soon turns into a series of unexpected encounters, new relationships and chaotic situations.
Mukerji said the film was inspired by the movies she grew up watching and aimed to capture the experience of being on the threshold of adulthood.
“Don’t Be Shy came from a place of missing the movies I watched growing up,” Mukerji said, adding that the film explores a phase of life when people are “on the brink of adulthood but still young in so many ways.”
She also thanked Alia and Shaheen Bhatt for trusting her with the project, as well as Prime Video and the film’s young cast.
Bajaj said playing Shy, a character very different from her own personality, pushed her outside her comfort zone.
“Playing a character so different from who I am was both challenging and exciting,” she said, adding that she wanted to do justice to Shy’s journey.
Arora said her character Tara has a distinctive way of looking at life, making the role an enjoyable experience for her.
Duggal, who makes his film debut with the project, said he was nervous and excited about seeing his first film reach audiences worldwide.
“There’s something surreal about knowing that my very first film is about to be watched by audiences around the world,” he said.
Khati described Mayank as a layered character and said playing the role was both challenging and enjoyable. He also spoke about the experience of working with the three other newcomers as they navigated their first major project together.
Don’t Be Shy will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in Hindi with English subtitles on September 25, 2026. The film will be available across India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
