2,000 year old philosophical guide
'Thirukkural', considered the identity of Tamil civilization and literature, is called 'Tamil Veda'. It was composed by the saint poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar about two thousand years ago.
The 1,330 couplets contained in 133 chapters provide guidance on topics such as life, conduct, politics, love and death. That is why it is considered a universal code of life for the entire humanity irrespective of religion and caste.
New dimension to cultural bridge and public relations
While handing over the book, Prime Minister Modi highlighted its historical importance. He told the Russian President that this work written by Saint Thiruvalluvar very clearly defines the practical aspects of human life, moral values and social responsibilities. PM Modi expressed confidence that this work available in Russian language will further strengthen the cultural understanding between the common citizens of the two countries. The huge statue of Saint Thiruvalluvar, who holds a place of reverence in every household in Tamil Nadu, is still waving the flag of this great heritage on the banks of Kanyakumari.
