New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the BRICS Business Forum in Delhi in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and heads of state of many other countries. Today, when trade barriers are increasing in the world, India is building economic bridges. Since 2014, we have signed free trade agreements with about 40 countries of the world. Our approach in BRICS is also to reduce barriers and increase opportunities for trade, so under our chairmanship we have formed new cooperation in areas like agriculture, health, skills and smart grid.

Modi said, the theme of India's BRICS chairmanship is Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability. In the last 12 years, India has made this mantra the basis of its economic and trade policies. Talking about flexibility, India has made the supply chain more diversified and reliable, from energy to technology. As a result of this, even amidst global uncertainties, India is today giving assurance of growth and stability. We are rapidly expanding roads, railways, ports and airports. At the same time, we are developing new capabilities in strategic sectors such as shipbuilding, semiconductors, quantum technologies, critical minerals and biotech. In these areas, India is becoming a center of new opportunities for global business.
The Prime Minister said, BRICS countries are becoming important centers of global innovations and solutions. From grassroots initiatives to cutting-edge technology, new possibilities for innovation are taking shape in our countries. The increasing growth, scope, speed and hope of BRICS are clearly visible. This forum is the largest BRICS business forum ever organized in India. When the BRICS group was started in 2006, there were only four countries in it. Today, including BRICS and BRICS partners, we are a family of 21 countries. Today BRICS countries represent 50 percent of the world's population, 40 percent of GDP and more than 25 percent of trade. Not only this, while the global GDP has increased by about 1.5 times in these years, the combined GDP of BRICS countries has increased by about 4.5 times. That means the economic strength of BRICS has increased at almost double the speed compared to the world.
