Growing economic ties between India and the UAE

India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi is also participating in the summit. Prime Minister Modi held a bilateral meeting with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Saturday, September 12. The two leaders reviewed the growing economic and strategic ties between India and the United Arab Emirates UAE. After this meeting, it was reported that UAE International Holding Company will invest as much as 11.5 billion dollars i.e. approximately Rs 1 lakh crore in an integrated greenfield aluminum project in Odisha, India.

11.5 billion dollars investment

The meeting mainly focused on UAE's investment plans in India. Modi and Sheikh Khalid welcomed UAE International Holding Company's announcement to invest $11.5 billion in an integrated greenfield aluminum project in Odisha. The project is expected to be India's largest integrated aluminum investment and establish Odisha as a global aluminum manufacturing hub.

Who owns UAE's International Holding Company?

Abu Dhabi-based business conglomerate Royal Group owns a majority stake in UAE's international holding company IHC. Royal Group is controlled by the ruling Al Nahyan family, which holds a 61% stake in the company.

The IHC is headed and overseen by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE National Security Adviser and brother of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who also chairs the IHC. IHC is a publicly traded company listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange ADX, which means it has other institutional and public shareholders.

Consensus on strengthening BRICS

In a meeting between Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, both leaders agreed that India and the United Arab Emirates will continue to work together to strengthen cooperation and advance their shared interests through the BRICS platform.
