Gola Bazaar Gorakhpur: The alleged delay of ambulance in Uruwa market has raised serious questions on the health system. The family immediately took 65-year-old Rajkumar Gupta, who was seriously injured after falling from the roof, to the health center. Seeing his condition serious, the doctors after first aid referred him to the district hospital. Family members allege that despite calling for 108 ambulance, the ambulance did not arrive for about an hour. During this time the injured continued to suffer on the stretcher. Later, when he was taken to the district hospital through another arrangement, the doctors declared him dead.
According to the details received, Rajkumar Gupta, a resident of Paharpur of Uruva police station area, had fallen from the roof on Friday afternoon. After the accident, his wife Vimala Devi and other family members hurriedly took him to the health center. Seeing the serious condition, the doctors referred him to the district hospital after initial treatment.
According to the family members, they called the ambulance on number 108 to take them to the district hospital. It is alleged that information about sending an ambulance was given over the phone, but no vehicle arrived for a long time. While waiting for about an hour, Rajkumar remained lying on a stretcher in the health center premises. Seeing the condition worsening, the family members started arranging for a private vehicle.
Later, with the help of the doctor, an ambulance was arranged from Belghat and Rajkumar was taken to the district hospital. As soon as he reached the hospital, the doctors declared him dead. As soon as the news of the death was received, there was an outcry in the family. There is anger among the local people regarding the incident and questions are being raised on the functioning of the ambulance service.
There was also an allegation of delay in ambulance in the Gumbad accident.
Questions were also raised about the delay in ambulance after the recent dome accident at Guru Gorakshghat in Rajghat. The family members of two advocates who were injured in the collapse of the dome on September 6, had first taken them to the district hospital in a pickup and e-rickshaw.
Even after being referred to BRD Medical College from there, there was an allegation of waiting for the ambulance for about 40 minutes. Both the advocates later died. The advocates had also created a ruckus in the hospital regarding this matter. Such incidents are continuously coming to the fore and have increased people's concerns about the availability and accountability of emergency health services.
