Keep these 3 things in mind while buying gold from jewelers
- Buy only BIS hallmarked gold
While buying gold, definitely look for the hallmark of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Hallmark helps in confirming the purity of gold. Be sure to check the purity and carat of gold before purchasing.
- Cross check price before buying
Before buying gold, definitely check the price of that day. For this, price matching can be done from reliable sources like IBJA. The prices of 24 carat, 22 carat and 18 carat gold are different. Also, the weight of the jewelery should also be checked properly.
- Negotiate making charges
Making charges are also included in the price of jewellery. This charge may differ from jeweler to jeweler. Ask the jeweler for a complete breakup of making or labor charges before purchasing. If you are making a big purchase, you can also bargain on the making charges. This may reduce the overall value of the jewelry.
Note: There may be a difference between IBJA’s bullion rate and the rate of jewelery market in different cities. Making charges and other applicable charges may be added to the final price of the jewellery.
