Maratha reservation movement leader Manoj Jarange Patil has not received police permission for his proposed hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on September 19. The police rejected the application last year citing violation of terms and conditions. Jarange said that he will go to Mumbai peacefully and protest in a democratic manner.
Tezzbuzz Desk- Manoj Jarange Patil, who is agitating for Maratha reservation, has been shocked by the decision of Mumbai Police. Azad Maidan police has refused permission for the proposed hunger strike on September 19. In its decision, the police have cited the instructions given by the Bombay High Court in the Amit Sahni case and the violation of rules during the agitation last year.
A letter has been issued by the police regarding the application in the name of Gangadhar Kalkute. It has been clarified that the demonstration of Jaranga has not been allowed in Azad Maidan.
Azad Maidan Police said that Manoj Jarange Patil had not followed the rules and conditions set during the agitation in the Maidan last year. On this basis, this time permission for their proposed demonstration has been refused.
After the police decision, Jarange targeted the government and said that when permission was given last year, the same government and the Home Minister were there. In such a situation, what is the justification for withholding permission this year citing the Amit Sahni case?
Jarange said – will go to Mumbai peacefully
Manoj Jarange Patil said that he will go to Mumbai despite the police ban. He made it clear that his movement would be conducted in a peaceful and democratic manner. Jarange accused the government of doing injustice to the Maratha community and insulting the law and the Constitution.
He said that the government cannot stop the movement by taking arbitrary decisions. Jarange also raised the question that if permission was given for the demonstration last year, then why is it being denied this time.
Signs of legal battle also
Jarange Patil said that his team of lawyers will look into the entire matter and if necessary, the court will be approached. He said that legal questions will be raised on the conditions being imposed to stop the movement.
He reiterated that he respects the law and will raise his demands democratically. He has also demanded the government to reconsider the decision and allow the movement.
Now it has to be seen what is the next step of Manoj Jarange Patil after the police decision and whether the Maratha reservation movement once again reaches the legal front.
