Hyderabad, September 13 (IANS). Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) Director Shikha Goyal said on Sunday that Telangana Police has so far helped 24,189 cyber fraud victims get back Rs 139.68 crore.
At the recent National Lok Adalat held in Hyderabad, TGCSB along with Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), banks, digital payment service providers, all police commissionerates and district police units across the state succeeded in recovering Rs 42.28 crore to 3,896 victims.
The best performing unit in providing refunds through Lok Adalat was Cyberabad, which returned Rs 14.19 crore to 942 victims. TGCSB stood second, recovering Rs 10.55 crore to 41 victims, while Malkajgiri stood third, recovering Rs 5.27 crore to 1,024 victims.
Hyderabad Police recovered Rs 5.02 crore to 530 victims, while Suryapet Police recovered Rs 0.76 crore lost to the fraud to 34 victims.
Apart from Lok Adalat, TGGSB is also actively using MRM (Money Restoration Module) launched by MHA in May 2026 to recover money from cyber crime victims.
This module has been operational in Telangana since June and helps victims get refunds without a court order. As of September 12, Rs 27.23 crore has been returned to 9,355 victims through MRM. Goyal said that through these two initiatives, a total of 13,251 victims across the state have received financial relief this year.
GCSB has urged victims of cyber crime to apply for refund through MRM.
Since its inception, the Bureau has helped 73,204 victims get back Rs 514.93 crore.
Telangana remains at the forefront in providing economic justice to victims of cyber crime. The Director said that these results have been possible due to prompt action on victims' complaints, better coordination with banks, judicial cooperation and efficient use of Lok Adalat and MRM systems by all police stations.
“GCSB is committed to further strengthen the Lok Adalat and MRM-based recovery system to provide speedy financial relief and justice to victims of cyber crime,” he said.
GCSB advised citizens not to disclose OTP, PIN, password or banking information to unknown people under any circumstances. Verify customer care numbers only with official websites. Do not click on suspicious links received on SMS, email, WhatsApp or social media platforms and never share your personal or banking information with anyone.
In case of cyber fraud, immediately call 1930 cyber helpline or lodge a complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in within 'golden hour'. He said that prompt reporting significantly increases the chances of freezing the defrauded amount and recovering it.
