New Delhi, 14 September 2026: Amidst signs of improvement in relations between India and China, a big and important news has come out from the northern border. The Indian Defense Ministry has said in an official statement that China has significantly reduced the deployment of its People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). According to the ministry's report, now only 10 units of Combined Arms Brigade size are deployed in the border areas and traditional training areas of LAC. Along with this, the Defense Ministry has clarified that the position of the Indian Army in all the sectors of LAC is very strong and the Army is fully prepared to meet any emergent situation.
The ongoing political, diplomatic and military level meetings between the two countries are being held responsible for the reduction of Chinese forces. According to the ministry, this step has helped in bringing more stability on the northern borders. During the years 2024 and 2025, India and China had revived all the means of communication. Under this, the 33rd and 34th round meetings of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) were held in March and July 2025. Moreover, meetings of Special Representatives on the border dispute were also scheduled for December 2024 and August 2025.
Bilateral relations were further strengthened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held in Tianjin in August 2025. At the military level, the 23rd Corps Commander level talks in East Ladakh were also successful. At present, the meetings of officers at the border are being held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
