Ant bait gel
For dealing with an entire colony, ant bait gel can be particularly effective. Rather than killing ants immediately, the gel contains a slow-acting insecticide mixed with an attractive food source.
Worker ants consume the bait and carry it back to the nest, where it is shared with other ants, including the queen. This allows the poison to spread through the colony and can wipe it out within days, according to The Sun.
Glass cleaner and liquid detergent
Ants leave behind pheromone trails as they move, allowing other members of the colony to follow the same route to food.
Cleaning these trails can make it harder for ants to find their way back. One method is to mix glass cleaner with a small amount of liquid detergent, such as dishwashing soap, in a spray bottle.
Spray the mixture on areas where ants tend to gather or enter the home, then wipe the surface while leaving a light residue. The process can be repeated whenever ants reappear.

White vinegar
White vinegar is another inexpensive option that can both repel ants and help clean household surfaces, according to Healthline.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water and use the solution to wipe floors, countertops and other areas where ants are commonly seen. It can also be sprayed directly on ants before they are wiped away.
Although the vinegar smell usually fades quickly for people, ants can still detect it after the surface has dried, helping disrupt their trails and discourage them from returning.
Getting rid of visible ants is only part of the solution. Preventing another infestation also requires removing the things that attract them.
Do not leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight, and wipe down countertops soon after preparing food. Even small traces of sugary foods, such as honey or syrup, can attract ants.
Pet food should also be removed once pets have finished eating, especially wet food left in bowls on the floor.
Finally, seal small cracks and gaps around doors, windows and skirting boards with silicone sealant to reduce the number of entry points ants can use to get inside.
